IT Operations Specialist

Job Summary:

Waste Solutions is seeking an IT Operations Specialist to join our growing team. This role blends hands-on end-user support with systems administration and IT infrastructure management. You’ll help keep day-to-day operations running smoothly while driving improvements across cloud systems, security, and automation.

This is a mid-level, hybrid position supporting a remote and distributed workforce. You’ll work closely with leadership, external IT partners (MSSP, etc.), and other internal stakeholders to ensure our technology foundation is secure, scalable, and aligned with the company’s growth.

What you will be doing:

1. Support & Operations

• Provide Tier 1–2 help desk support to internal users (approximately 25% of workload).
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues for local and remote users.
• Manage and track devices (laptops, peripherals, mobile devices) through lifecycle processes.

2. Systems Administration

• Administer Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and related enterprise tools.
• Oversee user provisioning, group management, licensing, and policy enforcement.
• Maintain and improve endpoint management, patching, and security compliance in combination with an MSSP.
• Manage identity and access controls, MFA policies, and conditional access.

3. Infrastructure & Security

• Identify opportunities to automate, standardize, and strengthen IT processes.
• Contribute to IT documentation, knowledge base content, and user training materials.
• Participate in planning and executing IT projects such as device rollouts, migrations, and integrations.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance productivity and security.

4. Continuous Improvement

• Support the implementation and optimization of security measures with the MSSP.
• Monitor and optimize Microsoft Azure environment.
• Assist with network, firewall, and VPN configurations as needed.
• Monitor and document system health, uptime, and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with external providers such as the MSSP on escalations and improvement initiatives.

What we are looking for:

• Three to five years of experience in IT operations, systems administration, or similar role.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Networking, and Intune.
• Strong working knowledge of Windows environments, and security best practices.
• Experience supporting distributed or remote teams.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities independently.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, specifically Azure
