SENIOR CONTROLLER

 About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Controller to oversee all aspects of financial accounting and reporting, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies while delivering accurate and timely financial statements. This role is responsible for key functions including SOX compliance, monthly financial reporting, account reconciliations, profitability and operational analysis, and audit preparation.

 

What You’ll Do

Accounting and Reporting:

  • Ensuring accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; enforcing GAAP compliance; reviewing close packages; and maintaining reporting calendars.
  • Managing the full close cycle, reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analyses; driving continuous improvement to shorten close timelines.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Assist in JJE’s annual budgeting process
  • Respond to inquiries from Senior Leadership and other departmental Senior Managers regarding financial results
  • Lead and oversee all internal/external audit requests and tax requests
  • Ad hoc requests as required

Management:

  • Managing accounting staff, setting performance expectations, coaching, mentoring, hiring, and building a high‑performing finance team and support to enhance their professional growth.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Leading ERP enhancements, automation initiatives, and process redesign to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Champion JJE values and lead a cohesive, engaged accounting team with transparency, holding regular team meetings, and maintaining open communication channels.
  • Ensure clear, timely communication with senior leadership on emerging issues, including proactive escalation when risks, blockers, or decisions require executive attention
  • Complete additional tasks and projects assigned

 

Total Rewards

  • Base salary range: $150,000.00 to $180,000.00 annually

Position Details

Location - Barrie, Ontario

Status - Permanent, salaried

Type – This position is classified as a management role and is exempt from overtime provision under the ESA

Schedule - Monday-Friday - occasional extended hours may be required based on operational needs.

Vacancy Type - New vacancy

Reports – 4-8 direct/15 indirect reports

Travel - 2-5%, mainly within Ontario

 

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA/CA designation is required
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, where applicable and in accordance with applicable laws
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior level accounting management role
  • Experience working in a publicly traded, multi-location company
  • Experience managing a team of finance & accounting professionals
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (US GAAP)
  • Financial analysis, budgeting and strategic financial planning experience
  • Advanced experience working with ERP software, IntelliDealer experience is an asset
  • Advanced/Expert experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with SOX compliance

 

Additional Requirements

  • Technical college certificate or degree (preferred)

  • A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract is required for job-related travel

  • Successful completion of a job-related background check, conducted with candidate consent and in accordance with applicable laws.

 

Work Environment

  • Office environment, with eligibility to work up to 1 day per week remotely
