Affiliated with the Dean of Student Services at the Medicine Hat College, Mental Health Services and Counselling invites applications for the position of Counsellor. Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health Services, this position is accountable to the provision of individual and group counselling to a diverse post-secondary population. This appointment is a full-time temporary leave replacement position.
####A little about the role:
The Counsellor will engage in crisis intervention and short-term counselling services with students at our Medicine Hat campus. Students will present with a wide range of mental health challenges. The Counsellor will be flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working with a variety of counseling modalities. This position willensure that confidential client records, are properly maintained, protected, and shared in accordance with professional codes of conduct, provincial legislation and college information privacy policies The Counsellor develops and participates in outreach programs to the MHC community these include; collaborating with community members on larger, more involved projects/events/outcomes for student mental health; and undertaking education activities for the purpose of teaching/sharing mental health knowledge, skills, and practices.

As a successful applicant you'll have:
- A Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related discipline
- Minimum 2 years professional experience
- Registration in good standing with a regulated body under the Health Professions Act. Registered Provisional Psychologists are encouraged to apply
- Experience working with diverse and equity deserving groups like Indigenous peoples, racialized minorities, 2SLGBTQ folks, people with disabilities, newcomers, and International students
- A desire to work in a collaborative team environment
- Experience working in a post-secondary education environment is preferred
- Comfort working with software systems like Microsoft Office and EMRs
Appointment Term: May 1, 2026 – October 1, 2027
Salary: $83,764 gross per annum
