About the role

Job Description Contract up to 4 months starting May 2026 Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Corporate Communications - External team is looking for a co-op student to assist with the planning and implementation of strategic communications plans, including for GO Transit, UP Express, PRESTO, safety, regional planning and partnerships. The co-op student will work with internal and external stakeholders, providing analytical support in the completion of required tasks and deliverables, with a focus on customer satisfaction, stakeholder relations, issues management and media relations. This role will also provide support to the Internal Communications and Executive Communications teams. You will report to the Manager, Corporate Communications – External.

What will I be doing?

  • Support senior advisors with integrated communications planning in the development of external and internal communications plans.
  • Support the development of communication products including key messages, Q&A, external editorial content, social media content, presentations and internal communication products.
  • Coordinate accurate and effective internal communications strategies, which inform and enhance relations with Metrolinx employees across the organization.
  • Support the production of internal communications assets, such as newsletters, videos, posters, presentations and intranet updates.
  • Contribute to issues management by helping to find solutions and mitigations to challenges that can arise with customers, residents and businesses.
  • Assist with reporting and tracking initiatives that support the division.
  • Coordinate responses to internal and external information requests across the team.
  • Provide administrative support to a variety of areas, including capturing information from meetings and presentations, minute-taking and distribution.
  • Attend project meetings and contribute to the communications perspective.
  • Provide support to those working with various internal and external stakeholders, including community partners, municipal service providers, and government stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), to exchange information, execute communications strategies, respond to complaints and analyze information.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Must be enrolled in either a full-time accredited co-op program or attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution in order to be considered for this position.
  • Enrolled in communications, public relations, journalism, media, political science, government relations or related field at a post-secondary institution.
  • Interest in communications, media relations, community engagement, customer service and/or public affairs, with experience executing and communicating informational and promotional material to the public.
  • Knowledge of communications planning and strategy, customer service and issues identification/management.
  • Previous experience working within a business environment.
  • Strong written, oral communication interpersonal skills are required, along with a keen eye for detail.
  • Political acuity is an asset.
  • Project and time management skills to support workback schedules and ensure deadlines.
  • Co-operate and assist other co-workers with various projects.
  • Knowledge of CP Style, as asset.
