As an experienced Health and Safety Coordinator working in the Major Projects team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth, challenging industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with the project management team, various client groups and subtrades to ensure project excellence through your outstanding leadership, keen eye for detail and commitment to quality, and health and safety

Responsibilities

Promote and support Pomerleau’s Occupational Health & Safety Management System and site-specific safety plans.

Deliver safety orientations to workers, clients, and stakeholders.

Coordinate and deliver training in areas such as WHMIS, First Aid, Forklift, Propane, fall protection, confined space entry, traffic control, respiratory protection, and emergency response.

Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and behavioral observations.

Maintain and update safety documentation, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Develop and implement workplace safety plans (e.g., emergency evacuation, fire safety, traffic control, fall protection).

Distribute safety materials, supplies, and equipment.
-
Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committees as a management representative.
-
Analyze accident trends, support incident investigations, and recommend corrective actions.
-
Oversee site safety coordinators and assist with workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
-
Liaise with government agencies and assist with external safety audits.
-
Mediate and resolve health and safety issues on site.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction industry
- CSO certification (required); NCSO and WorkSafeBC First Aid Level 3 are assets
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation and EHS training delivery
- Skilled in facilitating safety meetings, orientations, and group training sessions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage professionally
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively
- Adaptable to fast-paced, changing environments
- Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
