Department Information

The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

Job Information

As the Registrar and Chief of Profession Regulation, you will play a pivotal role in protecting public safety and shaping the future of health and social services across the territory.

In this role, you will:

  • Administer legislation that governs health and social services professionals.
  • Make independent, high-impact decisions that affect professionals and communities.
  • Lead national and territorial initiatives to modernize professional regulation.
  • Collaborate with legal experts, regulatory bodies, and senior leadership.
  • Champion cultural safety and anti-racism in health and social services.

Key Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business or Public Administration (or related field), and six (6) years of experience regulating and licensing professionals in a quasi-judicial position, including one (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience.

  • Related field may include, but are not limited to, Political Science, Public Policy, Healthcare Administration, Law, Management and Social Sciences/Sociology.

Equivalencies:

  • Masters Degree in Business or Public Administration (or related field), and four (4) years of experience regulating and licensing professionals in a quasi-judicial position, including one (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Diploma in Business or Public Administration (or related field), and eight (8) years of experience regulating and licensing professionals in a quasi-judicial position, including one (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience
  • 10 years' experience relevant to the position, such as appointment as a profession Deputy Registrar, senior level position as a profession regulator in a quasi-judicial position or experience as a registered professional.
