About the role

As a Senior Buyer with J.D. Irving, Limited, you will work alongside Operations and Maintenance groups to support daily procurement activities for select operating sites. This role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service while driving value and ensuring compliance with procurement policies and standards. The position is located in Saint John, New Brunswick, with the expectation for some local travel.

  • Negotiate commercial (and in some cases technical) aspects of purchases

  • Provide purchase recommendations based on cost, quality, and delivery

  • Build, maintain and manage relationships with key vendors and internal customers

  • Identify and capture cost savings opportunities

  • Develop and maintain contracts for site services

  • Review and develop RFPs

  • Collaborate across shared service groups such as Legal, Finance and Human Resources

  • Opportunities to challenge yourself daily by making quick and creative decisions to meet requirements of the site in a fast-paced environment

  • Post Secondary education

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Strong negotiation, presentation, interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Self-Motivated and able to work under pressure

  • Engages interest and participation from others and has a collaborative approach

  • Assertive

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask while prioritizing workload

  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against deadlines

  • Ability to build good rapport with customers and suppliers

  • Experience in procurement is considered an asset
