WAGE RATE: $39.07 – $56.00
Reporting to the Manager, Oncology and Dialysis the Registered Nurse (RN) provides training and support for patients who receive their hemodialysis treatment at home. The RN is responsible for training and maintaining patients in doing their own peritoneal dialysis with the goal of promoting self-management of their chronic disease. The position is assigned to work across the Southwest LHIN, primarily at Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound.
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications
Required
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
- Valid Drivers License (G class) with the ability to travel within the South-West LHIN
- Minimum (2) years recent, related nursing experience in Hemodialysis
- Demonstrated knowledge of acute nursing principles
- Working knowledge with the Baxter Peritoneal Dialysis System
- Demonstrated ability to function as an independent primary nurse of a large group of outpatients, with excellent independent nursing assessment skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate patient/staff education programs and materials
- Demonstrated effective communication, critical thinking, team-building and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize workload
- Evidence of commitment to self-directed learning
- Evidence of motivation to be an enthusiastic and effective member of an interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
- Adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others) and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment
- Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
Preferred
- Recent, related nursing experience in Nephrology
- Recent, related experience in peritoneal dialysis
- Certificate of Nephrology Nursing
- Adult Education Certificate/Diploma
- Working knowledge of the Baxter AK98 hemodialysis machines
- Previous experience with the provision of adult education; teaching staff new skills individually or in groups
- Previous experience in home peritoneal dialysis patient training
