THE OPPORTUNITY
Ovintiv’s program is a comprehensive summer internship designed to provide a solid foundation of knowledge and experiential training while giving students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in school in a real-world setting. As an intern you will spend the summer working closely with an experienced mentor and be assigned a project and various other responsibilities intended to provide you with learning opportunities while delivering meaningful contributions to Ovintiv.
This position is ideal for students with strong data management skills. The role will support regulatory and government relations functions, with a focus on topics such as royalties, climate and air emissions, cumulative effects, and government incentive and funding programs. A strong desire to learn how different teams and systems within the company connect is essential to effectively contribute to these areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in coordinating the implementation and ongoing development of regulatory change initiatives across Alberta, British Columbia, and Canada.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to support analysis that informs regulatory advocacy efforts.
- Provide analytical and modeling support to the engineering government relations team.
- Offer technical advice and guidance on regulatory matters, and communicate relevant changes to internal teams.
- Participate in meetings and contribute to effective communications that support regulatory change initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, and contribute to influencing regulatory outcomes where possible.
- Support work related to royalties, climate and air emissions, cumulative effects, and government incentive and funding programs.
- Gather and manage data from various sources, and engage with internal teams to ensure alignment and integration across regulatory initiatives.
- Occasional field travel may be required.
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
- Currently in your second or third year of Engineering
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student through December 2026.
- Solid academic results, particularly in core courses, balanced with other work, volunteer or extracurricular experiences
- Proficiency with data analytic tools and methodology
- Willingness and desire to learn
- You are self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- You must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of your work term
- You have the ability to work independently
- Available to work May 4 – August 21, 2026 in Canada.
Hiring Hourly Range: $28.13 – $38.94 CAD
Compensation may vary and will be determined by year in school.
