The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

Role Responsibilities
This exciting and influential senior management role is brand new to the Training Academy. The Director, Police Conversion Training and Standards position has the unique and challenging opportunity to shape police recruit training in the province for the newly minted Alberta Sheriff Police Service (ASPS).
In this position, you will provide leadership and direction to a team and business area and fosters, through relationship building, a collaborative culture moving the Training Academy forward as a center of training excellence. As the successful candidate, you will support the Training Academy in developiong this new program, Police Conversion Training, ensuring agility and adaptivnes in addressing police recruit training needs and training resources. Your collaborative networking and creative problem solving abilities will allow you to develop solutions and options to address the complex challenges of delivering conversion training and experienced officer programs to support the ASPS. You will be responsible for police conversion training standards to ensure consistency (standards) of content and instructor qualifications, officer safety and consistency in training delivery, and alignment of programs to the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP) and Ministry requirements.
You will need to be agile in order to anticipate and support change by championing a plan of action, creating momentum and finding ways to overcome and remove barriers. In order to do this, you will be required to build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. As such, exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills are a must. Strong communication, problem solving and decision making skills are also imperative.

Qualifications
Required:
University graduation in a related field supplemented by seven years’ progressively responsible (and current) experience in a law enforcement police environment is required.
Experience in a progressively responsible management role is also required.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of:

One year of directly related experience for one year of directly related education, or
-
One year of directly related education for one year of directly related experience.
Related experience may include but is not limited to working in a police training unit, working in a post secondary institution to provide police-related law enforcement training.
Related education may include but is not limited to Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement diploma and university programs.

Experience with setting and overseeing training standards, policies, audits and processes.
