About the role

Job Description The School Clinical Therapist is an integral part of a busy, dynamic and growing clinical program at Kinark Child and Family Services, Community Based Child and Youth Mental Health program in the Simcoe region. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the School Clinical Therapist will be required to liaise with internal and external collaterals in the provision of clinical services. The School Clinical Therapist provides mental health services and treatment to clients referred by local elementary and high schools or by families. The School Clinical Therapist travels to local schools to provide treatment. In-office sessions for children, youth, and families may also occur. The School Clinical Therapist has knowledge of educational processes such as IEPs, IPRCs, learning challenges, and the ability to understand and explain psychoeducational assessments. The School Clinical Therapist will be responsible for completing comprehensive clinical assessments, formulate and develop individualized treatment plans prior to providing individual, family, and/or group therapy to high risk and complex children, youth, and families within an office-based, as well as a community-based setting, specifically in schools, as required. The successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of two evenings per week based on client needs.

The School Clinical Therapist position is covered by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. Internal candidates will be considered first.

This role, School Clinical Therapist is assessed as a Roamer position requiring 3 days in the office/schools per week, inclusive of school sites. This position is also eligible for a Compressed Work Week. The hourly wage levels for this position are $39.01 - $42.82. Annual salary range of $70,998.20 - $77,932.40.

Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Complete an initial comprehensive assessment, considering the multiple layers and interacting mental health issues, needs, and disorders, concurrent substance use issues,

and medical conditions.

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Complete a comprehensive formulation and treatment plan as a foundation for treatment, integrating input from interdisciplinary team members and collateral sources.
  • Provide evidenced-based interventions to both youth and families, monitoring outcomes for treatment effectiveness and modifying treatment activities as needed.
  • Individual and Group treatment to be provided both in office and in community schoolbased settings inclusive of a minimum of 2 evenings per week based on client and program

needs.

  • Liaise with school administration/personnel in addition to client families and community service providers as required in treatment planning.
  • Participate in full model DBT (or other evidenced-based interventions such as CBT) inclusive of phone coaching to both youth and families.
  • Actively participate in Competency-Based Clinical Supervision model.
  • Complete all documentation as required and in compliance with agency policy/procedures and College standards.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work or a Master's Degree in a Health-Related Discipline (e.g. Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology).**
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related degree, or an extensive work experience in the field/discipline will also be considered.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) as a Social Worker, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience working in a mental health setting, is required. Direct experience working with school boards will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, formulation and treatment planning skills.
  • Experience delivering full model DBT is preferred; at minimum, training and experience in delivering CBT and/or Behavioural models is considered an asset.
  • Experience with providing a broad range of clinical services and demonstrated effective work with a child and adolescent population who present a variety of clinically challenging

issues.

  • Computer competency is required for this position.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures is considered an asset for this position.
  • Travel is required for this position (across Simcoe County); the successful candidate must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars.
