Instructional Assistant, Hairstyling

Term of Employment: November 17, 2025 to August 28, 2026 or the day before the employee being replaced returns to work

Rate of Pay: $29.76 to $39.40 per hour

Location: Henlow Campus

Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (35 hours/week)

Reporting to the Academic Coo

Reporting to the Academic Coordinator, the Instructional Assistant (IA) is responsible for providing instructional support to students under the direction of the MITT Faculty, the IA’s role is to facilitate the inclusion of students and assist students in becoming independent learnings and members of the classroom, school, and community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide effective support for students under faculty and management direction;
    • reinforce content provided by faculty;
    • advocate for student needs and supports for their success;
    • assist and monitor students in the development of their theoretical and practical skills;
    • supports student progress in blended learning and/or online courses;
    • assist in review and reinforcement of program materials assigned by faculty.
  • Support faculty in the blended/online classroom environment.
  • Support faculty in hands-on learning in the skilled trades shops.
  • Under the direction of the faculty, prepares classrooms and program equipment for before and after use.
  • Under the direction of the faculty, orders supplies to support MITT program delivery.
  • Meet standards of professional and ethical conduct in relation to students, families and colleagues.
  • Follow guidelines and requirements to protect the safety and well-being of students.
  • Assist in enforcing school and classroom policies to students.
  • Foster a co-operative, respectful working relationship with faculty and an understanding of the parameters of the responsibilities of an IA.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Related experience in the program field(s).
  • Experience using online learning tools, specifically D2L BrightSpace.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate in Adult Education is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years or more experience working as an IA is an asset.
  • Experience in supporting adult learners through student evaluation and reinforcement of classroom management is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is considered an asset.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record check including vulnerable sector and Child Abuse Registry Check.
