About the role

PROCUREMENT MANAGER
The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing and executing the procurement strategy and inventory management processes for Nature’s Fare Markets warehouse. This role ensures optimal stock levels, cost control, and efficient coordination between suppliers, the warehouse team, and internal stakeholders.

By driving strategic purchasing for both warehouse and direct-to-store business, the Procurement Manager plays a key role in vendor management, profitability, and aligning warehouse operations with the broader goals of Corporate Purchasing and Merchandising.

What you’ll be doing:
Purchasing, Administration & Data Management

  • Maintain up-to-date cost records, item listings, on-hand quantities, and vendor agreements.
  • Manage the Prebook Program for seasonal items, special promotions, and Direct to Store opportunities.
  • Provide strategic oversight to store procurement teams for seasonal items, special promotions, and Direct to Store opportunities.
  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies that optimize cost of goods, negotiate where needed, and meet target margins.
  • Forecast inventory needs and place purchase orders based on historical data and business needs.

Warehouse Management

  • Own the financial performance of warehouse operations.
  • Accountable for the budgeting and cost management of warehouse operations.
  • Monitor and report on performance by period.
  • Oversee the Warehouse Manager, providing leadership, coaching, and guidance to ensure efficient daily operations, adherence to company policies, and achievement of service, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Ensure cycle counts and annual inventory counts are executed

Vendor & Partner Coordination

  • Maintain strong relationships with brand, broker, and distributor partners to facilitate a smooth order process and quick issue resolution.
  • Coordinate inbound logistics and align receiving with warehouse capacity.
  • Negotiate COGS for volume purchases and manage O&A deals as presented.

Strategic Support

  • Support the Category Management team with warehouse listing and delisting decisions through data analysis.
  • Act as a core support partner to Category Manager(s) providing recommendations on special buys and warehouse purchases.
  • Identify issues and opportunities within categories and escalate insights for action.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Corporate Purchasing team and interdepartmentally to ensure alignment and consistency in data, communication, and processes.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Prepare reports, summaries, and data packages to support internal planning and vendor negotiations.
  • Analyze item performance and sales trends to provide actionable insights to Category Manager(s) and store purchasers through the prebook process.

What you bring:

  • A high attention to detail: maintain accuracy in data entry and analysis, identify inconsistencies, and apply solutions.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills: prioritize tasks, adapt quickly, and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptive and critical thinking: adjust processes as business needs change and reprioritize tasks effectively.
  • Collaborative approach with a focus on team success: high emotional intelligence, lead by example, and assist team members when needed.
  • Strong administrative and technical capabilities: manage deadlines, interpret data, and connect information effectively.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of MS Office Suite; intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Confident system/process skill set: manage, manipulate, analyze, and report data in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with sales management, warehousing systems, or enterprise resource planners is beneficial but not mandatory.

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, or supply chain.

  • Experience in a natural or specialty grocery retail environment is an asset.

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor team members.

Please note: This is an onsite role located at our Head Office in Vernon, BC. Preference will be given to candidates who live within daily driving distance of our Vernon office.
