Nature And Scope Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Technician – HVAC is responsible for providing technical support for the maintenance and operations of Facilities systems, including HVAC systems, at the North Warning System (NWS). The position is focused on ensuring operational efficiency and reliability at remote radar sites in Canada’s North. This position plays a critical role in maintaining site infrastructure and adhering to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in maintaining NWS systems, focusing on HVAC systems, heating systems, and other site Facilities systems.
  • Conduct annual Federal Halocarbon Regulations leak tests and preventive maintenance at Long Range Radar (LRR) sites.
  • Perform annual preventive maintenance on HVAC systems at Long Range Radar (LRR) sites.
  • Analyze equipment failures to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Document performance, maintenance records, and activities in the work management system.
  • Provide feedback to the Sustainment Services department on modifications, additional projects, and maintenance program improvements.
  • Analyze and implement design changes for efficiency improvements.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as unexpected equipment failures, to minimize downtime and operational impact.
  • Assist with the installation and modification of HVAC and other Facilities systems.
  • Conduct environmental, safety, and security audits and promote workplace housekeeping.
  • Support maintenance of site libraries and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Provide support in developing and conducting technical training as required.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mission success.

Credentials Who You Are:

  • Valid 313A - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic.
  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification.
  • Oil burner technician level two (OBT-II) considered an asset.

Certificate(s)/License(s)

  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level A (valid certificate).
  • Valid Class 'G' driver’s license or provincial/territorial equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Prior experience in technical training development and delivery an asset.

Skills

  • Proficiency in commercial test equipment and troubleshooting tools.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and building structural systems with the ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Maximo (asset).
  • Proven analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Additional Requirements

  • Must already hold or be eligible for a Level II (Secret) Clearance, approved by the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate.
  • Comfortable working in colder climates with frequent travel by fixed-wing and rotary-wing transportation and a rotation schedule.
