As a key partner in this global effort, our computational team works on enabling scientific innovation and directly collaborates with global researchers in bioengineering, neuroscience, and oncology.
Job Summary
We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Biomedical Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with data analysis, machine learning, or scientific computing, and a strong interest in building efficient, scalable software solutions for both research and industrial applications in a fast-paced start-up environment. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and optimizing image-analysis pipelines for large-scale 3D fluorescence microscopy datasets. You will collaborate closely with our tissue-processing and image-acquisition teams to design robust workflows, extract quantitative insights, and ensure data quality across the entire imaging pipeline, while working with internal Contract Research teams to analyze, interpret, and present results from biological imaging experiments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing image processing and analysis algorithms for large-scale 3D fluorescence microscopy datasets.
- Optimize, maintain, and scale components of the image analysis pipeline to improve efficiency, robustness, and throughput.
- Run, validate, and troubleshoot analyses for Contract Research projects, ensuring accurate results and timely project completion.
- Support the development of data engineering workflows, including database management, ETL processes, and handling of large imaging datasets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth data acquisition, integration, and downstream analysis.
- Communicate analytical findings clearly to internal teams and external scientific partners.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioengineering, computational biology, electrical engineering, or a relevant field with 2+ years of professional experience or advanced education.
- Masters’ degree in relevant fields
- Experience with image processing for biological / biomedical applications
- Experience using Python for data science, computer vision, and deep learning (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-image, OpenCV, SimpleITK, pandas)
- Strong problem-solving skills with a self-motivated and detail-oriented mindset and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Adaptable and proactive in a fast-paced environment, comfortable working across multiple concurrent projects and evolving requirements.
- Strong interest in working in a fast-growing life sciences startup environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with light microscopy, neuroscience, and immunohistochemistry
- Familiarity with best practices for software engineering.
- Experience in developing and working with data engineering/analysis pipelines.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary.
- Full insurance package for full-time employees.
- Potential for a transfer to the US office after one year, based on performance.
- Flexible time off.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $105,000 CAD
