Your Opportunity
As a GIS Intern within the Environmental Business Operating Unit at Stantec Consulting Ltd. you will be tasked with utilizing geographic information system (GIS) technology to support various projects and initiatives. Your role will involve but not limited to, processing field collected data, and mapping to aid in environmental or engineering tasks. You will work under the guidance of senior staff, who will provide mentorship and ensure you gain practical experience. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills and apply them in real-world scenarios. Our GIS consulting team supports a wide range of professionals from vegetation ecologists, marine biologist, archaeologists, geomorphologists, to soil scientists and we’re looking forward to on-boarding a student to our team for the upcoming semester.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Developing geoprocessing scripts and work on updates to field data collection tools
- Archaeology permitting and reporting
- Geotechnical reporting
- Marine substrate mapping
- Habitat suitability mapping
- Processing satellite image for land cover analyses
- Linear referencing natural features along linear infrastructure
Your Capabilities
The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for learning about environmental consulting, is willing to take on new challenging tasks, and would like to work with diverse team of professionals from different environmental backgrounds. Experience and qualifications in the following areas are also preferable:
- Strong working knowledge of ESRI (or equivalent) software and extensions (AGOL, Survey123, etc).
- Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation
Education and Experience
- Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences program
- Two years of college education in environmental sciences and within approximately 1-2 years of graduation.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
