United Way Greater Toronto is currently seeking a Manager, Corporate Communications to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, the Manager, Corporate Communications will support the execution of United Way’s corporate communications plan for stakeholders from corporate, community and government sectors.

How you will make a difference:

  • Lead development of newsletter content for staff, including media monitoring, daily media clippings, regular evaluation and identifying opportunities for enhancement

  • To further UWGT’s relevance and thought leadership with donors and community partners, lead the development of a new content strategy for owned channels (e.g., website, social media, intranet).

  • Using critical documents including the Annual Report and Community Impact Briefs, develop and implement a staff knowledge mobilization strategy in collaboration with the Senior Manager and Director of Communications

  • Provide leadership across corporate communications projects including communications planning, project management, and cross-departmental organization and collaboration. Projects include leading the development of Community Impact Briefs and supporting planning for the Annual General Meeting with department and cross- departmental support.

  • Contribute and support story development for media, stakeholder communications and online channels

  • Draft and edit communications materials for organizational priorities and emerging issues: stakeholder correspondence, opinion pieces, key messages, backgrounders, briefs and talking points, materials for print, broadcast and digital

  • Support the communications functions of UWGT’s Reconciliation and Equity plan

  • Manage key initiatives and special projects as assigned

What you bring to the role:

  • A love of community, with a passion for creating positive change for our communities
  • Post secondary education in communications, journalism, public relations or related field, or equivalent work-related experience
  • 3 - 5 years of communications experience with diverse audiences and stakeholders within corporate, non-profit and public service sectors
  • A strong understanding of community issues, equity and inclusion and priorities in the areas related to United Way Greater Toronto’s mission
  • Superior writing skills, including the ability to produce articles for publication, prepare written reports, and draft correspondence for senior management
  • Ability to make sense of complex issues and frame a compelling story
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression
  • A strong understanding of how systemic racism and discrimination impact community and the priorities related to United Way Greater Toronto’s mission
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and relationship management skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse employee population and multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt narratives and tactics to the identified medium and audience
  • Affinity and experience embracing new communications trends, technology and tools in an evolving communication, digital, social and earned media landscape
  • Proven capacity for initiative, problem-solving and strong project management skills, carrying out projects to completion and responding to demands for fast turn-around
  • Detail-oriented, ability to set priorities, manage several projects at once and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Willingness to actively contribute to UWGT’s Reconciliation and Equity Framework through participation in learning opportunities and implementing anti-oppressive, and anti-racist learning into action internally and externally
