International Governance and Control sits within International Card Services (ICS) which comprises all the issuing functions across all 28 international markets excluding the US - colleagues operate across a variety of geographies and disciplines. ICS issues products to our Consumer and Commercial customers – the organization is an integral part of the global growth strategy for American Express; offering differentiated products and services is critical to our success and promises to drive significant growth and value through the delivery of innovative products, tailored to the needs of our customers. Our organization helps our international businesses manage risk, respond to new regulation, and develop new products while creating and nurturing effective partnerships across multiple key stakeholders across the organization.
The objective of the ICS Control Management Legal Entity Governance Team is to provide specialized and strategic operational risk advisory to the business on product and service areas to ensure an effective control environment exists that delivers on all operational risk obligations supporting the Canada Legal Entity. The role will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.
The ICS Control Management organization is looking for a Manager of Control Management Legal Entity Governance Canada focused on supporting the focused on supporting the management of Legal Entity’s Operational Resiliency framework, which includes mapping of critical business services, impact tolerance setting, scenario test design and execution, and ongoing program and incident management.
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Create and refresh Critical Business Functions (CBS) dependency mapping, ensuring alignment between Operational Resiliency and Business Continuity Management, where applicable.
- Plan and facilitate CBS scenario testing and resilience exercises, including severe but plausible scenarios outside of cybersecurity. Document outcomes of testing and track issues that require remediation from identification to closure.
- Create Operational Resiliency documentation in alignment with the E-21 guideline (e.g. how to comply, procedures, processes and plans), ensuring annual reviews and refreshes.
- Provide updates to Senior Leaders, Risk Committees and other relevant stakeholders on program activities and opportunities for enhancements to the program as may be identified, based on key learning.
- Develop and maintain robust cross-market relationships, become a trusted 1LOD Operational Resilience partner and SME to facilitate collaboration and synergy amongst international teams, progress the program towards maturity, and enhance the control environment and governance framework.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in operational risk management.
- Experience in operational resilience or business continuity.
- Hands-on experience with CBS mapping, tolerance setting, scenario testing and incident management.
- Strong planning, organizational, coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards.
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous.
- Exposure to E21 or operational resilience regulatory frameworks.
- Experience within financial services industry.
- Experience in at least one of the following:
- Supporting go-to subject matter experts in sharing subject matter expertise within the BU on specialized risks.
- Facilitating activities to comply with enterprise policies and programs pertaining to specific risk types.
- Support advising on specialized risk types and integration into broader operational risk policies and programs.
Hiring Range: $100,000 to $150,000 annually + bonus + benefits
