Northumberland Ferries Limited is seeking motivated individuals to join our Relief Galley Cook Pool. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for food service who are interested in working in a unique marine environment while supporting the delivery of safe, reliable ferry service between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
This is a casual, on-call relief position. Successful candidates will be trained and added to our qualified relief pool, where they will be called in to cover shifts for vacations, leaves of absence, sick leave, and other operational staffing requirements. Hours of work are not guaranteed and will vary based on operational needs.

About The Role
The Galley Cook is responsible for the efficient, economical, and safe operation of the vessel's galley while preparing and serving meals for crew members and approved visitors.
This position plays an important role in supporting the well-being of the vessel's crew by providing nutritious, high-quality meals while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and serve meals for crew members and approved visitors. Operate the vessel's galley safely and efficiently. Maintain high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and sanitation. Follow food safety regulations and safe food handling practices. Clean and sanitize galley equipment, food preparation areas, and storage spaces. Monitor food inventory and assist with stock rotation and inventory control. Work independently while collaborating with the vessel's crew. Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental standards.
Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a just-cause safety culture
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have
Experience in cooking, food preparation, catering, restaurants, institutional kitchens, or food service (preferred but not required). Safe Food Handling Certification (considered an asset). Strong organizational and time management skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A strong commitment to safety, cleanliness, and customer service. The ability to work in a physically demanding marine environment.
Marine experience is considered an asset but is not required. Training will be provided to successful candidates.
Working Conditions
This position is based aboard our vessels and requires flexibility to accept work on an as-needed basis. Relief Galley Cooks are contacted when coverage is required and may be offered shifts on short notice.
The role may require
Availability to accept day, evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight shifts as operational needs arise. Standing for extended periods. Lifting, carrying, bending, and working in a busy galley environment. Working in varying weather conditions while the vessel is underway. The ability to travel to the vessel's departure terminal when called for work.
