Position Description Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Financial Analyst will support the FP&A team by delivering accurate reporting, variance analysis, forecast support, and data-driven insights across clinical and non-clinical portfolios.

Working closely with the Manager and Senior Financial Analysts, this position will support the growing FP&A function and increasing financial planning demands, and will include financial analysis, collaboration with stakeholders, and involvement in key initiatives that support decision-making.

Main Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Update and maintain recurring monthly departmental and management reports and dashboards.
  • Prepare variance analysis (Actual vs Budget/Forecast) with clear explanations of key drivers.
  • Assist with tracking restricted funding, deferred revenue, and program-level financials.
  • Provide in-depth analysis on grants and external funder trackers and reporting.
  • Support accurate reporting aligned to contracts and funder requirements.
  • Perform reconciliations, checks, and reasonableness reviews to ensure data accuracy.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and emerging risks, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and requests.

Budgeting and Forecasting Support:

  • Update and maintain forecast models, templates, and assumptions.
  • Compile and validate budget and actuals data for departments.
  • Perform first-pass analysis for departmental results, including volume, cost, and headcount drivers.

Month-End and Accounting Support:

  • Support month-end close activities, including data validation and reconciliations, journal entries, and backup support documentation.
  • Ensure supporting documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Assist with responding to audit and information requests as required.

Systems, Data, and Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, or standardize recurring reports and analyses.
  • Support data preparation, validation, and testing for financial systems and reporting tools.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across financial systems and reports.
  • Contribute to documentation of processes and reporting logic.

Stakeholder and Team Support:

  • Partner with Senior Financial Analysts to support assigned portfolios.
  • Assist in preparing materials for internal stakeholders and leadership reviews.
  • Clearly communicate financial information in a concise, structured, and understandable manner.
  • Proactively flag inconsistencies, risks, or gaps to ensure timely corrective action.
  • Provide any other financial analysis and support as requested by the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field of study.
  • Fully qualified Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or a recent graduate of the CPA program.
  • Experience in external auditing with one of the Big 10 auditing firms.
  • 2 years of post-CPA experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, or corporate finance.
  • Experience in healthcare, non-profit, or public-sector environments is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes.
  • Highly Proficient with MS Office (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Strong with Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data validation.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite is preferred).
  • Demonstrated Solid understanding of financial statements and variance analysis.
  • Comfortable working with imperfect, manual or evolving data sets.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal skills, and collaborative team player.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and highly detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a recurring close and forecast cycle.
  • Curious mindset with willingness to learn, ask questions, and take feedback.
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
  • A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
