Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

A part-time academic is required to teach section (01) Chinese 1032.03: Introduction to Chinese (Mandarin) Part 2 – Winter Term 2026 (January 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026).Currently Scheduled: M/W 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese and possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level will be an asset. All applications should include a letter of application with a curriculum vitae and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Applicants who have not previously taught at Dalhousie should also arrange to have two confidential letters of reference forwarded to the Department.

All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
