Are you an experienced engineering professional with expertise in highway design applications and digital solutions? Do you have a passion for driving innovation through Building Information Modelling (BIM) and advanced design technologies? If so, consider this exciting opportunity to join the Highway Design Office of the Standards and Management Section.

In this role, you will lead the implementation of advanced highway design applications and digital delivery. Your work will strengthen design standards, improve contract documentation, and support Ontario's digital modernization in transportation infrastructure.

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • lead the implementation and optimization of highway design applications and digital workflows, including 3D highway design engineering software, Contract Preparation System (CPS), and BIM.

  • provide technical leadership and guidance in developing standards, procedures, and tools to support highway design and contract documentation.

  • analyze complex engineering and design issues, ensuring compliance with specifications and consistency in application of standards.

  • identify and drive opportunities for innovation and process improvement to advance digital modernization in highway engineering design and construction.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • You have a valid driver's license, or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • You have advanced knowledge of highway engineering design principles, standards, and applications, including digital workflows, customization of templates, BIM, and contract preparation processes.
  • You are experienced with engineering design software such as OpenRoad Designer (ORD), Contract Preparation System (CPS), and other CAD-based applications.
  • You understand procurement processes for engineering applications and can evaluate emerging technologies to support modernization initiatives.
  • You are proficient in computer operation and software tools for documentation, analysis, and reporting, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

Analytical and Leadership/ Guiding Skills

  • You have proven analytical skills to assess complex engineering design issues, identify gaps, and evaluate opportunities for process improvement and digital innovation.
  • You have leadership/ guiding skills to:
  • lead the development and implementation of highway design applications, standards, and procedures.
  • interpret and apply directives, policies, specifications, and digital workflows to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • provide expert advice and direction to support modernization initiatives and guide teams in adopting new technologies and practices.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • You have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to provide expert advice on highway design engineering applications and digital workflows.
  • You can prepare clear documentation, reports, and presentations to support standards development and modernization initiatives.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, management, external stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams within the ministry and other jurisdictions.
