About the role
Join our Tax Operations team as a Taxation Officer and play a key role in ensuring accurate tax reporting for life insurance products. You’ll resolve complex tax issues, support compliance with legislative requirements, and collaborate across teams to deliver exceptional results for our customers.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide tax responses and supporting calculations for escalated customer cases and inquiries from call centers and administrative teams.
- Support year-end tax slip production, ensuring timely and accurate reporting within a strong control environment.
- Investigate and resolve complex tax issues, including exempt tests and escalations, and recommend process improvements.
- Participate in business projects to ensure systems reflect tax compliance requirements and legislative changes.
- Monitor tax legislation, communicate implications for products, and share updates with internal teams and business partners.
- Act as a subject matter expert, collaborating across departments to troubleshoot issues and drive operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
- Has a foundational understanding of life insurance taxation and why accurate reporting matters (technical training provided).
- Appreciates the importance of correct tax documents, calculations, and policy reporting.
- Is familiar with Manulife life insurance products across multiple systems and platforms.
- Is highly customer-focused and able to navigate complexity to deliver the best outcomes.
- Collaborates effectively with partners and can lead projects or complex cases.
- Is a strong teammate, eager to grow their career in tax and possibly pursue a tax designation.
- Enjoys teaching and helping team members understand systems, calculations, and the impact of our work.
- Enjoys working with numbers, spreadsheets, and solving complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Taxation knowledge
- Experience with life insurance and annuity taxation
- Familiarity with life, health, and disability insurance and/or investment products
- Experience with tax slip preparation
- Completion of LOMA courses
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

Salary range is expected to be between
$57,675.00 CAD - $96,125.00 CAD
