The Railcar Repair Project Engineer, position is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of railcar repair projects, ensuring that they are executed with the highest quality standards, within budget, and on schedule. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to define scope, resolve technical issues, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement in repair operations. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Plan and execute railcar repair projects (scope, timelines, resources, coordination) Review engineering drawings, repair procedures, and regulatory requirements Coordinate across teams (maintenance, procurement, scheduling, quality, sales) Assess railcar repair needs and provide technical solutions Develop work procedures, templates, and support material ordering/part setup Manage project budgets and control costs while maintaining safety and quality Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements Lead and support technicians, fostering a productive team environment Track and report project progress, risks, and mitigation plans Drive continuous improvement, lean initiatives, and process enhancements Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Analytics (or related field) 2–5 years of project management experience in railcar repair, maintenance, or a related field Strong knowledge of railcar structures, systems, components, and applicable regulations Proven project management and execution skills Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail Willingness to travel (~15% within Canada and the U.S.) Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in railroad, tank car repair, or regulated industrial operations. Strong working knowledge of AAR, DOT, and FRA rules and regulatory requirements. Understanding of tank car design, components, and applicable regulations. Experience working with cross-functional teams in operations, maintenance, and supply chain Familiarity with lean principles, continuous improvement, and 80/20 methodologies Experience developing repair procedures, work instructions, or engineering standards Background in quality assurance, audits, or compliance in an industrial setting Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on efficiency and process improvement Work Environment & Schedule: Hybrid work arrangement: minimum of 2 days per week in office with up to 3 days per week working remotely Disclaimer: Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
