Context
We are looking to strengthen our Environmental team in Ontario and are looking for a Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials Specialist to join the growing team.
Missions/Main Duties
Review of previously completed investigations and reporting. Identify data gaps and commitments. Development of the scope and schedule related to their specialty. Lead the subject matter team tasked to complete investigations work and reporting. Incorporation of requirements into design. Confirmation that requirements and commitments are executed. Oversee Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials assessments related to demolition of buildings, roads, utilities, and miscellaneous materials. Evaluates the potential risks for workers and develops mitigation and control measures in accordance with applicable legislation.
Profile/Skills
minimum of 5 years of direct work-related experience; a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of study related to occupational hygiene, environmental health and safety, environmental science, civil or environmental engineering; experience in the identification and evaluation of Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulation 278/05, Ontario Regulation 490/09, Ontario Regulation 860 made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario); Ontario Regulation 347 made under the Environmental Protection Act (Ontario); and Ontario Regulation 362 made under the Environmental Protection Act (Ontario); experience in the development of mitigation measures and removal plans for Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials;- knowledge of federal, Ontario and municipal policies, standards and guidelines, procedures and legislation with respect to Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials; ability to liaise with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities; and experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario
