Hours of work: 75 hours per pay period

Union: Non-Union

Wage Range: $54.103 to $63.649 per hour

Position Objective

The Physician Assistant will be a collaborative member of the Niagara Health Medicine program. The PA is responsible for providing direct patient care, including the assessment, management, and treatment of adult patients in accordance with the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation and site-specific medical directives. The PA will be providing patient care in acute, complex continuing care, clinic, and ambulatory care settings. The PA is expected to work collaboratively under the direction of supervising physician(s) with nursing, allied health, and other members of the patient care team including consulting services. The role will entail working closely with patients, families, and the healthcare team to promote efficient and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Canadian or US accredited Physician Assistant Education Program
  • Must be certified (CCPA or PA-C) or eligible for certification through the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or NCCPA (US certification)
  • Current registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Applies knowledge, skills, judgment, and competencies required for safe practice and patient safety as outlined in the professions' Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)/National Competency Profile
  • ACLS certification
  • Preference given to candidates with previous geriatric, adult acute/critical care, or internal medicine experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to document clinical encounters in a thorough and efficient manner
  • Demonstrates role flexibility and superior organization skills
  • Ability to work efficiently to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment in an interprofessional healthcare environment
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, make decisions and take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient or team inquiries
  • Excellent patient documentation
  • Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to reflect patient population needs
