Responsibilities

The System Administrator supports the Animal Ethics and Care Program (AECP) by ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of its software systems. This role exists to maintain and optimize critical infrastructure, enabling compliance with regulatory standards and supporting the program’s operational goals. Key responsibilities include managing sensitive data and metadata, administering and troubleshooting compliance systems, supporting users through training and technical assistance, generating reports for monitoring and analysis, and collaborating with stakeholders to improve system processes and plan for future needs.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum: University Degree or 3-year Community College Diploma

Experience

Minimum: 2 years

Preferred:

    • Experience working in the Animal Care and Veterinary Services field
    • Experience managing software implementation projects in a large complex organization, including all aspects of process development and execution
    • Demonstrated experience in managing and supporting enterprise applications and relational databases, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Familiarity with system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and applications software
    • Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
    • Ability to adapt to change and master new technical and organization concepts and processes
    • Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
    • Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate procedural documentation
    • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
    • Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
    • Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
    • Ability to follow formal business practices with high attention to detail
    • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
    • Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
    • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
    • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating workload
    • Problem solving skills with a sense of urgency in resolving issues and getting tasks completed
    • Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of Western Research and its affiliate community
    • Ability to encourage cooperation and build rapport among fellow team members
    • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
