About the Job
We are looking for a Labourer at Walker Waste & Recycle Drop-off depot Burlington location.
This is a unionized full-time role reporting to the Operations Manager. Our site runs on various shifts from as early as 4:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays with potential for Sunday work - your shift could also be overnights 6PM-4AM based on scheduling and senority. Based on weather and daily/weekly operations, hours may extend before and after listed hours of operations. Compensation for this role is $27.99/hour with overtime being paid out in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our new Labourer, you will provide a variety of duties to support site operations. This includes:
- Greeting and directing customers in a polite and service-oriented manner.
- Coordinating traffic flow to ensure the safety of customers and fellow employees on site.
- Safely directing customers to the correct dumping locations.
- Checking for contamination in loads and pleasantly explaining approved wastes to customers.
- Politely interacting with public and commercial haulers.
- Handling and sorting waste for the purpose of recycling and/or diversion, cutting cardboard and feeding it through the compactor.
- Kindly responding to customer inquiries or concerns and providing information.
- Working to maintain the grounds and facility. This includes such duties as cleaning the stationary compactors sweeping, litter collection, controlling odours and occasionally painting.
From time to time, you could be required to operate a mobile loader to load solid non-hazardous waste into compactor trailers through a stationary compactor or recycling (plastics and SSO) into an open top trailer This responsibility will require you to conduct a pre-inspection of the equipment, fuel, grease and safely operate the heavy equipment machine using the steering wheel, foot pedals and hand controls.
Here's What You Need
- Passion for Health and Safety and Environmental Performance
- An enthusiastic team player with excellent customer service skills; including courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
- Capacity to follow directives and fulfill requests.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Physically fit; able to stand, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Previous experience doing physical or outdoor work is an asset.
- Willing to complete a criminal background record as a condition of employment.
- Have a valid G driver's license with a driving record free of any charges.
- Previous experience operating a front-end loader or skid steer.
