A career as a Senior Planning Advisor at National Bank Financial (NBF) involves supporting NBF clients and Investment Advisors (IA) with information and guidance in the areas of income tax and planning. This is a rare 100% consulting position, without the management of clients' tax returns or the day to day compliance commonly associated with jobs in this area, allowing you to focus on helping people!
Our mission is to offer high-quality expertise and services in the areas of taxation, retirement and estates. You will work with a team of estate planners and financial planners located across Canada.
Your job
- Collaborate with your team to provide high‑quality tax and planning support to IA and other stakeholders.
- Guide your team members, IA’s and their clients in resolving tax and other issues by providing relevant information and possible solutions, and refer them to external experts as needed.
- Manage multiple files in an ever‑changing environment.
- Work closely with other experts and business partners, including financial planners, estate planners, insurance specialists, Wealth Solutions Directors etc.
- Help draft and update various tax and planning documents (e.g., budget summaries) to support colleagues on the advisory team, as well as IA’s and their clients.
- Be a team player, maintain relationships with many internal stakeholders and collaborate as a consultant.
- Participate in meetings with NBF clients and/or the client's external advisors.
- Understand business issues and participate in the development of practical and adapted solutions.
- If necessary, provide in‑house training.
- Ensure the management of corporate risks in the context of files.
Prerequisites
- University degree in a relevant field (business, law, accounting, actuarial science, finance, economics, etc.).
- In‑depth knowledge of tax rules for individuals, estates, trusts and corporations.
- Expertise in‑tegrated financial and tax planning.
- Five years of relevant work experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex tax concepts in a simple, comprehensive and practical manner.
Assets
- Master's degree or postgraduate diploma in taxation or have successfully completed the CPA In‑depth tax program.
- Professional designation (lawyer, notary, CPA, other).
- Knowledge of wealth management, financial products, pensions, retirement and estates.
