JOB SUMMARY

Mountain Adventures Guides are responsible for the daily operations of our adventure activities – including Mountain Ziplines and the Mountain Ropes Adventure. Gearing up, providing a safety briefing and taking guests through their whole two-hour experience, our guides are outgoing and knowledgeable, providing a memorable visit for all our visitors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Guiding tours in a safe professional manner while engaging with guests and providing an informative experience about Grouse Mountain and its surroundings.
  • Completing daily opening and closing inspections of the department areas and ongoing inspections of all relevant safety gear and equipment; reporting any equipment safety hazards and malfunctions to the Supervisor on duty.
  • Checking in guests for appropriate experience, process retail photo and other mountain activity sales to add value to guest experience.
  • Monitoring activities for risk management, as well as assessing and intervening when situations require (according to company policies).
  • Ensuring guests enjoy safe, positive, and enriching experiences that exceed the guest’s expectations.
  • Demonstrating, teaching, and assisting guests in the use of safety equipment.
  • Ensuring the correct fit, adjustments, and use of equipment before and during activity participation, and ensuring safety rules are followed, without compromise.
  • Promoting Mountain Adventures activities and all other Grouse Mountain products, services, and promotions in order to keep our guests informed
  • Completing daily written reports and checklists.
  • Completing general housekeeping duties for the Zipline Circuit, Ropes Course, Eye of the Wind and staff areas on a daily basis.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment, including cleaning/disinfecting Zipline/Rope equipment, common touch surfaces and other areas in the Adventures facilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position reports directly to the Manager, Rentals and Mountain Adventures, no direct supervisory responsibilities are given.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

  • Successful completion of secondary school preferred
  • Must have flexible availability and be available on evenings, weekends and holidays, including being available to work at least 3 days per week during July and August.
  • Time off is limited and is only available on a first come first serve basis
  • Previous experience leading groups, public speaking or tour guiding considered an asset.
  • First-aid qualifications considered an asset.
  • Must be able to complete all paperwork according to company policy, including proper delivery of release of liability waiver.
  • Must be able to work at heights and understand the requirements of mandatory safety at heights
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including restrictions for each activity.
  • Previous experience in customer service and/or adventure tourism considered an asset.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with teammates, leaders, and both adults and children guests in group and individual settings
  • A reliable self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to handle the physical requirements of an outdoor position that operates in all types of weather
  • Must complete area-specific training and pass a written test.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mountain Adventures Guides perform most of their duties outdoors and may work in all different kinds of weather conditions. Hours of Operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include a variety of start times, including shifts on weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, shoveling and other forms of manual tasks.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Starting at $18.86 per hour, up to $22.06 per hour
