About the role
Department Information
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
You will provide technical guidance and advice to headquarters (HQ) and regional staff, municipalities, program departments, regulatory bodies (i.e., Fire Marshal's Office,
Electrical; Mechanical Safety, etc.) and boards and agencies including industry associations, northern based service businesses and manufacturers, designers, builders and any other
organization requiring technical advice about developing, operating and maintaining buildings and works mechanical systems (i.e., HVAC systems and equipment, HVAC
applications, refrigeration / air-conditioning, plumbing fixtures, using appropriate standards and building codes- ASHRAE, CSA, NBC, NPC, NFPA, NFC, etc.).
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 8 years of relevant experience, OR Mechanical Engineering Technology plus 10 years of relevant experience.
At least two years of relevant work experience must be cold climate related.
Equivalencies - Completion of a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, plus ten (10) years of relevant work experience. OR
Completion of a post-secondary technical certificate in HVAC (Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning) or Power Engineering, plus fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience. (Building mechanical systems design, maintenance and troubleshooting).
At least two years of relevant work experience must be cold climate related.
Relevant experience may include; Building Mechanical systems, design, maintenance, operation & troubling shooting.
