About the role

Who we are

Skjodt-Barrett is a world-class manufacturer of food solutions and custom ingredients for North America's most beloved and trusted brands. We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.

A family-founded company started over 40 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Site Manager, we are looking for a QA Materials Coordinator to join our team. You will play a critical role in focusing on the day-to-day activities to meet increased production demands, customer requirements, and quality standards. You will ensure that every ingredient entering our facility meets strict quality and food safety standards before it is cleared for use in production. You will review supplier documentation, verify analytical and food safety requirements, and work directly with vendors when materials do not meet specifications.

This is an onsite role working Monday to Friday 11am - 7pm at our Brampton headquarters.

What’s in it for you

Impact. You will play an essential part in ensuring that every product begins with the highest-quality ingredients. Your work will directly influence production efficiency, food safety, customer satisfaction, and overall plant performance. You will partner closely with QA, production, receiving, scheduling, and customer service teams.

Exposure. You will gain hands-on experience with raw materials evaluation, supplier documentation, and the day-to-day operations of a high-volume food manufacturing environment. You will see how quality expectations are applied from the moment materials arrive, giving you valuable insight into the standards and processes that support safe, efficient production.

Career development. At Skjodt-Barrett, we believe in developing our people. This position is open due to an internal promotion, and you will work for a Manager with a strong track record of supporting growth within her team. As you deepen your knowledge and take on new responsibilities, you will have opportunities to move into areas such as QA, Product Development, and other roles across the organization.

How you will make an impact:

  • Manage raw material documentation. You will prepare detailed batch folders for all incoming raw materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness. You will collect, review, and trend Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and supplier documentation to confirm that each ingredient meets specification before it enters production. You will distribute COAs internally and externally as required and maintain up-to-date supplier and material records.
  • Verify quality. You will coordinate the timely submission of microbiological, chemical, and physical samples to third-party labs for clearance. If needed, you will address supplier issues, report non-conformance, and support complaint investigations.
  • Complete reporting and participate in auditing. You will enter quality data into the ERP system and upload supporting documents to SharePoint. You will maintain batch reports, including supplier specifications and incoming test results, ensuring accuracy and traceability of all materials received. You will participate in internal and external audits, traceability exercises, and continuous improvement initiatives specific to raw material handling and incoming quality processes.

What you bring to the role:

  • The experience. You have a science education or background and can read and interpret scientific standards, measurements, processes, and results. You have worked in an industrial manufacturing environment such as food, beverage, pharmacy, cosmetics, etc., and you are comfortable with changing demands. You can manage multiple priorities and projects and meet deliverables and deadlines. You may have HACCP & PCQI certification.
  • The drive. You are naturally curious and have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. You are highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, and excel at planning. You have a continuous learning mindset, always seeking opportunities to increase your knowledge and gain more information.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have professional and flexible verbal and written communication skills, including production schedules and processes and generating reports. You are comfortable working directly with customers and can build strong working relationships across levels and teams with internal and external stakeholders. You genuinely appreciate diverse experiences and backgrounds and are interested in understanding others, hearing their perspectives, and addressing their concerns.
