Currently, we are looking for a Senior Technical Designe r to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll be a key part of our Engineering team, helping to bring groundbreaking ideas into reality. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for custom timber design and a proven track record of bringing complex projects to life. You'll be responsible for the technical design, detailing, and engineering of our bespoke timber structures, ensuring they are both aesthetically stunning and structurally sound. This role has the potential to evolve into a higher-functioning leadership position, depending on company needs and the individual's performance and career goals.. It is best suited to someone who is comfortable working outside the box; our playgrounds don’t fit within regular building code categories.
The Role
- Lead the accurate and well-documented technical design and engineering of custom timber projects, from initial concept through to final fabrication drawings
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure design intent is maintained while meeting all technical requirements
- Apply your knowledge of structural or mechanical principles to solve complex design challenges and optimize designs for manufacturing
- Conduct design reviews and quality checks to ensure all products meet our high standards for safety and quality
- Break down complex problems into manageable components and propose multiple viable solutions to a single problem
- Strive toward developing new skills within all areas of playground design and construction
- Manage project timelines and resources effectively to ensure project deadlines are met
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to brainstorm ideas, analyze concepts and present your work.
Ideal Candidates Will Have The Following Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in design, STEM or a related field is preferred
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in design, manufacturing or custom-build environment
- Advanced experience with Solidworks or similar for 3D modelling and detailing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences
- Are meticulous and have a keen eye for detail, consistently identify and correct errors in designs
- Are the kind of person who thinks building models, LEGO, or even assembling IKEA furniture is awesome.

PLAYGROUND DIVISION Our goal is to design and build incredible custom playgrounds that open children’s imaginations, stimulate their creativity and challenge their motor development.
Complex and challenging structures, with dynamic features encourage climbing, balancing, jumping, mobility, strength, executive function, imagination and coordination. Risk and independence, failure and mastery, friendship and silence, are all facilitated by our playground designs and our constructed sites.
Our playgrounds are designed and fabricated in our Elmira, Ontario workshop where our experienced designers, crafts people and installation technicians work side-by-side to ensure adherence to strict safety standards while maximizing play potential.
