What is the opportunity?
In this opportunity, the Manager, Design is responsible for the development and management of architectural design solutions across the life-cycle of projects, improving client/employee experiences delivering based on RBC’s design guidelines and building code. You will translate business strategy into physical design, influencing scope for optimum results and liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance on critical aspects of the project (e.g. operations, business requirements, protection services, brand, building code, environmental and accessibility standards, etc). In this role, you will be responsible for delivering outstanding space plans and managing multiple partners (e.g. prime architects, furniture manufacturers, surveyors, etc).
What will you do?
- Produce Space Plans (detailed architectural layouts) for multiple platforms and initiatives across the Enterprise (e.g. retail branches; office spaces; high net worth client facing spaces; etc)
- Lead review of Space Planning drawings with key stakeholders, addressing feedback as needed
- Translate and influence strategy into physical design solutions, optimizing real estate, reducing cost where possible and mitigating risk
- Solution exterior signage and building envelope; liaise with outside partners (landlords/consultants/signage vendors)
- Work collaboratively on evolving the brand interior and exterior expression and guidelines
- Participate in value engineering discussions as needed to ensure project is delivered on budget
- Review construction drawings and liaise with consultants to ensure design standards are correctly applied and site conditions are addressed appropriately
- Provide design direction to consultants (ex. prime architects, general contractors) throughout the design development and contract documentation phases as needed
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- University Degree in Architecture or Interior Design
- 3 to 7 years’ work experience in professional practice or in-house corporate Architecture and Design group
- Building code, Accessibility Act and other regulatory by-laws knowledge; detail oriented and outstanding space planning skills
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with multiple stakeholders and work collaboratively in a team environment; solid time management, critical thinking and analytical skills
- Strong impact and influence skills; written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of: Revit (MUST), AutoCAD, and Adobe Suite
Nice-to-have
- Good understanding of retail premises design and operations
- Retail and/or Workplace design experience, particularly in the banking industry
- Working knowledge of: PowerPoint, Word, Excel (MS Office)
- Knowledge of SketchUp and 3D Studio Max
