As a Technical Support Unit System Administrator (TSUSA), you will be responsible for the network administration and management of the TST servers and associated hardware. Primary duties include:

  • Identify and implement new technologies and software programs from the system manufacturer into the existing data centre environment.
  • Ensure the integrity of data while monitoring system efficiency and performance.
  • Conduct routine security audits and install and configure new hardware and software.
  • Monitor and forecast storage needs to ensure optimal management.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Troubleshoot reported issues and respond to technical queries.
  • Develop and maintain network interfaces in collaboration with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
  • Archive video evidence and maintain video archives.
  • Create and prepare evidence for court and submit it to the CPS Property unit.
  • Assist the team with various technological projects.
  • Conduct testing and development of various wireless technologies and solutions including Wi-Fi transmission of data.
  • Perform routine security audits of servers and troubleshoot reported issues and address technical queries.

Working Conditions: Exposure to minor hazards from electrical components and chemicals.

Qualifications

  • A 2-year diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information System Management or a trade school program.
  • Comp TIA A+, Comp TIA Network+, Comp TIA Security+ and GIAC GSEC certifications and Windows and Linux Server Administration courses or equivalent courses are desired.
  • A minimum of 3 years broad level of knowledge relating to information technology including server operating systems, networking, databases, telephone systems and programming basics.
  • Successful candidate must be eligible for peace officer status.
  • Success in this position requires coaching and development, efficiency and thoroughness, planning and prioritizing/visionary, self-confidence and service orientation. An effective communicator with the ability to build strong relationships.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $44.76 - 59.84 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Non-Standard 40 hour work week
