The organization provides toll-free peer-to-peer counseling services, transitional homes for women & children fleeing abuse or homelessness, and facilitates educational workshops. The Bookkeeper will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the organization’s fiscal health, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles, donor restrictions, and funder requirements. This role requires a high degree of integrity, attention to detail, and cultural awareness to work effectively within an organization that values transparency, ethical stewardship, and respect for community sensitivities.

What You’ll Do:

Financial Recordkeeping & Data Entry

  • Record daily financial transactions (income, expenses, donations, grants) in the accounting software.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger entries and reconcile all accounts regularly.
  • Ensure all financial documentation is complete, organized, and stored securely.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process invoices and expense claims in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and issue payments to vendors, staff reimbursements, and contractors.
  • Track outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.

Grant & Donation Tracking

  • Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance with donor and funder requirements.
  • Prepare reports on fund utilization for management and grant reporting.

Bank Reconciliation & Reporting

  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the Board.

  • Assist with year-end audits by preparing required documentation and liaising with external auditors.

Compliance & Financial Integrity

  • Ensure adherence to CRA regulations for charitable organizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial data and sensitive organizational information.
  • Uphold Nisa Foundation’s values, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and professionalism in all interactions.

Ad Hoc Duties

  • Participate in additional meetings and undertake related responsibilities as reasonably assigned, including special projects, cross-departmental initiatives, and other tasks necessary to support the effective operation of the organization.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and CRA charitable regulations.
  • Experience tracking and reporting on restricted funds and grants is an asset.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity, with an understanding of Islamic charitable principles.

What we’re looking for:

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a non-profit or charitable organization.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
