Manitoba Parks cottage program is responsible for the administration of approximately 6200 vacation home lots within Manitoba's Provincial Parks. The department of Environment & Climate Change is looking to fill the position of Cottage Lot Planner.
Duties:
Under the limited supervision of the Head of Cottage Planning, the Cottage Lot Planner works collaboratively in a team environment and represents the first point of contact with owners and occupiers of Crown land within a provincial park. The public may inquire to the incumbent about cottage lot development or submit an application to develop on a vacation home lot. The incumbent will largely review and process all applications for a Site Plan Permit and/or Crown Land Permits respecting development on vacation home lots and/or designated Public Reserve areas, and prepares final approval packages. This position recommends to management the approval or denial of cottage lot development applications, following their review, planning, analysing and processing of technical application documents, often requiring specialized and complex square footage calculations.

Qualifications:
Essential:

Experience working in land managment, land administration, or land planning. Significant experience in an unrelated office environment may be considered in combination with other relveant education and experience.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to interpret and apply legilsation, regulations and policy or procedures.

Experience interpreting and reviewing application documents or an equivalent request for approvals in relation to development, land use and land transactions.
-
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a team environment and develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse goups and members of the public.

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.

Experience in record keeping and file management.
-
Effective verbal communication skills.
-
Strong written communication skills.
-
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential documents and information with political acumen.

Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or other equivalent computer programs.
Desired:
- Experience calculating square footage and areas for increasingly complex building designs/plans and working with legal land descriptions.
- Knowledge of the Cottager’s Handbook for Manitoba Provincial Parks.
- Ability to communicate in French both written and verbal.
