About the role
The R&D Flavour Laboratory Technologist is responsible for supporting flavour creation and development activities through precise compounding, sample preparation, sensory evaluation, and application testing base on customer opportunities. The technologist will also support technical document creation and collaborate with the sales team. This role works closely with Flavourists and the R&D team to ensure accurate formulation execution and high-quality flavour prototypes.
Key Responsibilities:
Flavour Compounding:
- Accurately weigh and measure raw materials using analytical balances to compound flavours according to established formulations.
- Follow flavourist instructions to prepare multiple trials, adjust formulations, and support iterative development.
Sample Preparation & Application Testing:
- Prepare flavour samples in appropriate tasting mediums (e.g., beverage, dairy, confectionery, etc.) and conduct application testing as required.
Sensory Evaluation:
- Perform sensory assessments of flavours and products, document observations, and communicate feedback to flavourists and project leads.
- Evaluate flavours and raw materials in application matrices to assess performance, quality, and suitability.
Project and sample management:
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and ensure timely completion of sample requests.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of formulations, evaluations, and outcomes.
- Prepare prototypes for internal evaluations and customer submissions, including documentation for specifications and excise samples when required.
- Support the flavour sample coordinator by assisting with sample requests and ensuring timelines are met.
Laboratory Maintenance:
- Maintain accurate records, ensure proper lab hygiene, restock raw materials, and follow safety and quality procedures.
What you need to bring to Embassy:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Chemistry, Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field; or equivalent practical industry experience.
- Interest in culinary trends and food innovation is a strong asset.
- Comfortable with lab-scale flavour compounding and working in food applications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internal documentation systems.
- Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving priorities.

- Detail-Oriented: Precision in flavour compounding and documentation (ppm level).
- Prioritization & Planning: Manages multiple tasks while staying organized and responsive.

Working Conditions:
- Regular standing, lab work, and weighing ingredients to high precision (3 decimal places).
- Exposure to aroma chemicals, food-grade dust, noise, and temperature extremes.
- Frequent sensory evaluation and tasting of products throughout the day.
- Physical lifting up to 10 kg as required.
- Handling of strong-scented raw materials under controlled lab conditions.
