Description What you’ll be doing
Organization Service Population:
- Clients living with physical, cognitive and mental health needs, who live in Waterloo Region.
- Staff, volunteers and supporters of the organization.
Location:
- Meetings held virtually via TEAMS
- Potential to be on-site at K-W Seniors Day Program location for special events or activities
- Committee work may be done at home or in community for fundraising and community engagement events.
K-W Seniors Day Program is a local organization. It is important to have Board Members who are local to Waterloo Region, or have lived in Waterloo Region to best understand the opportunities, threats and needs to our local community residents. Purpose Of The Position:
- To provide leadership and governance to support the mission of the K-W Seniors Day Program organization and follow its constitution and by-laws.
Support operational decisions, policies and procedures, strategical directions, with an understanding of local needs of the clients we support and thier care givers.
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 2-6 hours per month: annual renewable terms
- Meetings held in evening: approx. 2.0 hours. (last Tuesday of the month)
- May require some additional work outside of scheduled meeting times for committee work.
Accountability:
- Medium to High
- Accountable to Ontario Health for funding
- KW4 Ontario Health Team as Partner organization
- Public Sector
Risk Level:
- Low
Duties/Activities/Responsibilities:
- Attend monthly board meetings and participate in at least one committee of the Board, when required.
- Develop and support the Strategic Directions of the organization.
- Determine agency policy and ensure compliance.
- Approve and monitor the annual budget, ensuring that sufficient funds are available to safely/effectively meet objectives.
- Hire and supervise the Executive Director.
- Represent the organization to the community and bring the interests/concerns of the community to the organization.
Skills/Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of issues pertaining to seniors and adults with physical disabilities, cognitive impairments, complex medical issues, frailty and mental health issues.
- Expertise in at least one of: administration, finance, fundraising, human resources, program development, evaluation, public relations and advocacy.
- Trustworthy, reliable, ethical.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Boundaries/Limitations
- Follow confidentiality and conflict of interest guidelines.
- Police Check is required
Board members should have experience working within or knowledge of not-for-profit organizations
Orientation/Training:
- Program constitution/bylaws
- Orientation to agency history, programs and services.
- Initial training to Board member responsibilities and expectations.
- Ongoing development opportunities available.
Supervision And Evaluation: Responsible to the Chair of the Board.
- Ongoing feedback and annual evaluation provided.
