THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Maintenance Trade Worker, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the hospital running smoothly and safely for everyone who walks through our doors. Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, you’ll use your skills to maintain and repair essential systems like electrical, mechanical, and plumbing while also tackling a variety of general maintenance and renovation tasks. Whether you’re working with contractors, responding to service requests, or ensuring compliance with safety and health standards, you’ll be making a real impact on the day-to-day operations of the hospital. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same, and your contributions help create a safe, welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors alike.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Current license issued through the Ontario College of Trades in one or more of the following trades: Plumber, Refrigeration and Air
  • Conditioning Systems Mechanic, Construction Millwright, Electrician – Construction and Maintenance or Industrial
  • Previous work experience in a healthcare facilities department
  • Excellent accuracy and attention and high level of attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of information sharing, data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
  • Professional demeanour, able to relate easily to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Eye and hand coordination and manual dexterity to make rapid and accurate adjustments or repairs to equipment
  • Ability to think critically and remain calm under high pressure situations
  • Must possess the ability to work rapidly under emergency conditions and effect repairs
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, welding, and torch equipment, with awareness of associated dangers
  • Ability to order and manage parts inventory efficiently
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints as well as Provincial and Municipal codes
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on highly sensitive matters
  • Mould Abatement Certification an asset
  • CSA z317 Certification- Infection Control During Construction, Renovation and Maintenance of Healthcare Facilities an asset
  • HVAC technician with a G2 or G1 an asset
  • HVAC-R with 313A license an asset
  • Red seal carpenter an asset
  • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced working environment
  • Commitment to GBGH Values and Purpose Statement
  • As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly rate of pay $32.66 - $33.72, additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation to start.

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Casual. Mainly call in and vacation relief, shifts include days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays. Required to provide availability for a minimum of six (6) shifts per month. Shifts include days, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.
