About the role

Job Description Contract up to 9 months Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Indigenous Relations Office is looking for an Indigenous Relations Coordinator to join the team! You will research, analyze, and prepare a variety of documents to support business objectives, including presentations, proposals, reports, and contracts. You will also support the team across a variety of strategies/projects/tasks to ensure deadlines are met.

What will I be doing?

  • Support the team in researching, writing, and executing letters to Indigenous communities, and organizations; track and coordinate the flow of incoming and outgoing letters to ensure deadlines are met; format, prepare and send letters.
  • Support the preparation of a variety of draft reports, briefing materials, presentation decks for senior staff and management, the Metrolinx Board, and external agencies to address related issues and initiatives.
  • Plan special events and meetings; support the team with agenda management, action logs, meeting minutes; liaise with Indigenous Communities and organizations; take initiative to follow up with other Metrolinx departments to ensure actions items are progressing and on track.
  • Regularly liaising with internal subject matter experts and teams to ensure public facing information is accurate, transparent and of the highest quality to meet Metrolinx’s corporate communications objectives.
  • Work with cross-functional groups to improve efficiency and the customer experience while supporting operational goals and objectives.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a diploma in Indigenous Studies, Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field or a combination of education, training and lived experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in Indigenous Relations/Communications/Political Science/Public Relations/Government or similar roles.
  • Fluent knowledge of the English language is essential to manage this communications function.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to articulate and present advice, options and recommendations to colleagues including senior management and executives.
  • Excellent data management and data analysis skills
  • Intermediate experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
