About the role

Under the direction of the Manager, Legislative Services/ Deputy Town Clerk, the Elections Communications Advisor is responsible for delivering a variety of communications strategies directly associated with the 2026 Municipal Election. The Elections Communications Advisor will be a key member of the Legislative Services Election Management Team and will provide assistance and advice in developing and administering the communication plan for the 2026 Municipal Election while ensuring the activities are in line with the corporate communication practices.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary diploma in Public Relations/Corporate Communications/Communications or demonstrated experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in the field of public relations, municipal elections and developing corporate communication strategies with measurable results.

  • Thorough knowledge of municipal government, legislation and regulations, including but not limited to: the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, the Municipal Elections Modernization Act, the Municipal Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Education Act.

  • Thorough knowledge and the application of the principles of media relations, marketing and public relations.

  • Significant experience in public relations, communication and/or journalism including writing, editing, designing, layout and production of print and electronic communications.

  • Strong demonstrated ability to establish effective, positive relationships and deal effectively and courteously with various groups, including employees, the public, officials at all levels and the media, and to exercise discretion, diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong project management skills, multi-tasking and function effectively in a high volume workplace with inflexible, short deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism, sound judgement, diplomacy and confidentiality.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as work within a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), graphics and web publishing applications (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator), social media and analytics (such as Google analytics).

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to organize, shift priorities, multi-task and work independently.

  • Ability to work and excel in a fast paced, ever changing environment.

  • Available to work a flexible work schedule including scheduled and unscheduled overtime and modified hours. This position will require attendance at events which may occur on weekends or weekday evenings (i.e., outside regular business hours).

  • Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing with reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
