The AVP & Actuary, Pricing is a new vacancy. Reporting to the Vice President, Pricing, the AVP & Actuary, Pricing will be responsible for pricing initiatives for individual insurance products. This role will be responsible for negotiating reinsurance, monitoring and reporting on pricing profitability, and reviewing and assessing the appropriateness of assumptions used in pricing. The AVP will serve as a mentor and leader within the pricing team, supporting talent development and fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.
As the Assistant Vice-President and Actuary, Pricing you will…
- Support the VP in leading the development of our universal life, term, guaranteed life, simplified life, and critical illness products, as well as in the development of future individual insurance products
- Lead the negotiation of reinsurance for individual insurance new business to optimize pricing profitability
- Lead the reporting of individual insurance new business profitability
- Review and provide insights into individual insurance pricing profitability to help ensure results are reasonable and account for all material risks
- Ensure compliance with established pricing and risk management policies
- Be integral in key research and development activities leading to innovative insurance-based solutions
- Provide actuarial leadership and direction on pricing and reinsurance assumptions and methodology
- Work closely with key functions including Product Management, Reinsurance Administration and Underwriting to ensure pricing alignment with business goals
- Ensure clear and concise communication to management, focused on business drivers
- Maintain a deep understanding of client requirements, regulatory developments and market trends to inform pricing decisions
- Be familiar with actuarial valuation standards, CIA guidance material and OSFI guidelines
- Be familiar with accounting and capital frameworks (IFRS 17 and LICAT 2025)
- Manage resources and staff development including coaching, mentoring and performance assessment
- Possess strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team to make the most of their abilities and recognize their full potential
What we are looking for…
- FCIA
- University degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the individual insurance and/or reinsurance industry
- Superior organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple and changing priorities
- Strong analytical, decision-making and negotiation skills
- Working knowledge of capital and accounting bases relevant to pricing decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, focusing on relevant information and being able to explain complex concepts in easily understandable terms to a wide range of audiences
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing and engaging across all levels
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a high-performing team of pricing professionals
- Ability to understand and interpret complex guidelines and incorporate them into pricing models
What we pay…
$140,000 to $190,000
