Commissioning Engineer III
About the role
OVERVIEW:
Merrick Canada is seeking a full time Commissioning Engineer to become part of our growing Life Sciences Commissioning team. Assets for this position:

- Be a Self-starter and independently motivated individual. Must be able to work as a member of a close team and be able to work independently as necessary.
- Have good organizational and planning skills with the ability to direct a team through the execution of the commissioning process.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience coordinating with owners and contractors, as well as the ability to lead project meetings are necessary skills.
- Have the ability to generate accurate, detailed reports.
- Have the ability to read and understand building drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and submittals.
- Have knowledge of controls systems and control sequences.
Salary range for this position is $104,000.00 - $127,000.00 CAD. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Coordinate, perform and oversee detailed field commissioning services for all types of facilities including; laboratories, nuclear spaces, hospitals, production spaces, computer centers, general office facilities, clean rooms.
- Generate MS Project and/or P6 schedules and manage the commissioning process, Generate commissioning issues logs and manage to closure
- Generate commissioning plans; write commissioning specifications; develop commissioning installation checklists and functional test procedures; verify and validate commissioned systems controls and equipment; document commissioning process, develop final commissioning report, and develop systems manuals.
- Ability to write SOPs for the operation and maintenance of specialized systems and equipment. (Autoclaves, MSCs, Fume hoods) experience with decontamination,
- Full understanding on the validation process, including
- Development of Validation Master Plans along with development and execution of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, including managing the deviations for all types of equipment
- An understanding of GAMP, CFRs, CBSGs, BMBL are an asset.
- Development of URSs, FSs, to support engineering teams design and procure equipment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited 4 Year Engineering degree.
- Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Frequent travel to project/client locations with possible international travel (UK / Europe).
- Canadian citizenship.
- The ability to obtain a Canadian Level II – SECRET Security Clearance
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with AutoCad and/or Revit.
- 10-15 years or more experience in the commissioning of bio-containment laboratory facilities (CL2, CL3, CL3 Animal, CL-4), including HVAC (air and hydronic), controls, plumbing, laboratory equipment, fire protection, security, and/or electrical systems.
- Experience with HVAC controls systems and protocols (e.g. JCI, Siemens, ALC, BACnet, Modbus, etc)
- PE, CxA, BCxA, LEED AP
- 5-10 years or more experience in the design of HVAC (air and hydronic), controls, plumbing, laboratory equipment, fire protection, security, and/or electrical systems for bio-containment laboratory facilities OR
- 5-10 years or more experience in commissioning / validating of other types of high-tech, mission-critical facilities (Pharma, Biotech, Vaccine Manufacturing)
- Reside in the Ottawa area
