The opportunity

KPMG’s Prairies Indirect Tax team is recognized as a highly accomplished and innovative team, serving clients across a variety of industries. Our Indirect Tax team offers a full range of planning and compliance advice with respect to GST/HST, QST, provincial sales taxes (PST/RST), property transfer taxes, excise taxes, fuel and carbon taxes, and other indirect taxes levied by the provincial and federal governments in Canada. We help our clients ensure that they are meeting their obligations in all relevant jurisdictions and that they are making the most of any tax planning and refund opportunities. We also assist our clients in the context of indirect tax audits and appeals.

As a Manager on this team, you will collaborate with a large and dynamic group of indirect tax experts, leveraging their knowledge to deliver Canadian indirect tax advisory and compliance services to a diverse range of clients across multiple sectors. This collaborative environment will provide opportunities to enhance your technical expertise in Canadian indirect taxation through large and complex compliance projects, while also deepening your understanding through shared insights and problem-solving. In this role, you will work with KPMG professionals and clients on indirect tax matters to support compliance, conduct research, prepare advice, and assist with interactions with taxing authorities.

What you will do:

  • Work with Indirect Tax senior staff to support clients ranging from small private companies to large public companies
  • Research and develop technical positions on complex indirect tax matters and draft client communications including memoranda, opinion letters, and reports
  • Prepare submissions to taxing authorities in support of indirect tax audits and administrative appeals
  • Execute compliance review engagements related to indirect taxes
  • Perform data analysis using technology tools to support the work outlined above
  • Contribute to internal compliance tools and process improvements with technology and analytics teams
  • Collaborate with the indirect tax team to deliver high-quality client deliverables and exceed expectations
  • Support practice growth through onboarding new clients, improving operational efficiency, and contributing to broader initiatives

What you bring to the role:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, with a strong understanding of the application of Canadian indirect tax legislation and experience in indirect tax compliance
  • High self‑motivation with a demonstrated interest in specializing in Indirect Tax
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively apply tax knowledge to a variety of client situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, supported by excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and conflicting demands while maintaining professionalism in the execution of tasks
  • Strong Microsoft application experience, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, Power BI, Copilot, and related tools; ability to leverage additional technology is an asset
  • Experience working in, or alongside, technology‑enabled compliance environments is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a high level of drive and enthusiasm, and the ability to work effectively in teams and meaningfully contribute toward shared team goals
