THE JOB
The Contract Specialist supports the contract management process at Hy-Tech. This includes drafting accurate cost estimates and detailed proposals for new work, supporting negotiations and the drafting of contract documents. We are looking to add an ambitious, well-rounded individual to carry out the following key responsibilities:
- Support the Contract Manager and Operations Management to provide technical information and discuss drilling strategies to minimize issues and maximize program success.
- Research potential clients' backgrounds, management teams, and financials to validate inquiries.
- Support information gathering from Operations and various departments to gather information during the bid process.
- Prepare cost estimates and proposals addressing client requirements and highlighting Hy-Tech's value proposition.
- Support the negotiation of contract terms that ensure profitability for Hy-Tech.
- Draft contract documents for awarded work.
- Notify management when a new contract is awarded. Collaborate with Operations to prepare for pre-job meeting.
- Create contract summaries tailored for different user groups. Communicate expectations regarding timesheet submissions with Foremen at the beginning of the job.
- Notify the Contract Manager if scope changes are present in the timesheets. Assist with negotiating Change Orders with the client.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure client needs are being met or exceeded.
- Review timesheets daily for all jobs and approve based on contract terms.
- Communicate with Foreman to clarify discrepancies in timesheets.
- Help compile documentation needed for invoicing cycles and assist in preliminary invoice review.
- Stay current with industry trends and competitive activity by attending mining conferences, participating in industry organizations and boards, and engaging with relevant community events.
- Provide after hours contract support.

THE SETTING
This position is based out of the Company Headquarters in Smithers, BC. Office work environment with some travel required.
THE SCHEDULE
Standard working hours are 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday. There will also be some requirements to be available after hours and on weekends during busy times.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in mineral exploration or mining.
- An understanding of diamond drilling methodologies, and the associated costs and expenses with different drilling techniques is an asset.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Experience in job costing and contract writing is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email and the internet.
- Ability to thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment, juggling multiple priorities.
- Maintain high-quality standards and be a positive ambassador for Hy-Tech.
- Work independently and as part of a team, developing strong relationships.
- Perceive the bigger picture, tailoring your actions to achieve strategic objectives.
- Must have a valid driver’s licence and provide a current drivers abstract annually.

Our patented TECH 5000 drills consistently provide value for fly, skid, barge, ice and underground drilling projects. These highly mobile units are built to allow for easy set-up and tear-down, and excel in both power and depth. We carry a full inventory of parts and down-hole tools and have a comprehensive maintenance program to eliminate downtime. Our well trained teams partner with clients to meet objectives safely and efficiently, even in the most challenging of conditions.
Over the years our continuous growth combined with a strong commitment to quality, has led us to adopt a variety of management tools. In 2000, we attained ISO 9001 QMS certification. We are now compliant to ISO 14001 EMS, OHSAS 18001, COR Health and Safety Management System (2012), and most recently the CDDA developed DEC program (2012). These systems along with our real time management information system have shifted our company from a reactive mode to a proactive one, making us an industry leader since 1991.
CAPABILITIES:
- Diamond core drilling BQ, NQ, HQ, PQ tools
- Configured for: Fly, Skid, Barge, Ice and Underground
- We have twenty TECH 5000 drills capable of drilling to 1500 meters with NQ and to 900 meters with HQ
- We have one deep hole drill, the TECH 5000D which is capable of depths of 2200 meters of NQ
- RC drill available for overburden/bedrock testing, pre-collar work or geotechnical work
SUPPORT:
- Fully equipped shops and maintenance facilities in: Smithers, BC Saskatoon, SK Red Lake, ON
- Full inventory of parts and down hole tools
- Comprehensive maintenance program to eliminate downtime
- Real time database linking field operations with administration and the client, providing 24 hour access to time sheets, costing reports and job summaries.
