POSITION SUMMARY:

Assisting the Director, Facilities Management, the Maintenance Manager shall supervise the assigned Maintenance Department resources and provide the leadership required to deliver the services and programs that operate, maintain repair and renovate the facility’s buildings, structural components, mechanical and non-mechanical systems and mechanical equipment and other assigned department responsibilities. The incumbent shall be responsible and accountable to ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with all governing codes, regulations, laws and Kingston Health Sciences Centre policies and procedures.

The Maintenance Manager shall provide administrative and technical direction to Maintenance Department staff, acting as the immediate Supervisor in areas of departmental operations and administration, employee management, labour relations management, administration of the Collective Agreement, performance management and committee membership.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensures the organization of the delivery of maintenance and repair services, preventive maintenance program and facility projects, receiving direction and assignment in a general format from the Director, Facilities Management and develop all necessary planning, methodology, schedules, scope of work, estimates, work orders, purchase requests, in collaboration with appropriate Maintenance Department staff and the end user to ensure completion of work in accordance with their needs.

  • Oversees the assignment of work and activities of the Maintenance Department staff according to Maintenance Department procedures. The Maintenance manager shall enforce departmental compliance to all applicable codes, regulations, laws and safety procedures and the quality and timely completion of the work, by daily inspection and audit.

  • Directs the timely acquisition of suitable supplies and services (contracts) required for the operation, maintenance, renovation and upgrade of facility structures, equipment and systems within the requirements of the Maintenance Department Budgets, Materiel Management, Finance requirements and in collaboration with the Director, Facilities Management.

  • Collaborates with the Director, Facilities Management in the:

  • Development of departmental goals and objectives

  • Development of departmental policies and procedures

  • Development of department programs and projects

  • Preparation of annual budgets and capital equipment requests

  • Collaborates with other parties within the hospital during the formation or modification of policies and procedures to provide expertise from a facilities point of view.

  • Acts as representative of the hospital and liaison with contractors and other external agencies as requested by the Director, Facilities Management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires completion of Community College Diploma (3 year program) or equivalent

  • Completion of University degree or equivalent is preferred

  • Professional designation in a related field is preferred

  • Minimum 7-10 years related experience in a similar position; hospital environment experience preferred

  • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of building mechanical and structural systems, the associated trade practices and a knowledge of current materials

  • Ability to understand the function of mechanical, structural and electrical systems as it relates to hospital services

  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications

  • Knowledge to be able to effectively troubleshoot systems and to be able to approve systems for installation

  • Demonstrated current knowledge of the Hospital and departmental standards, policies and procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Infection Control Procedures and Practices, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code and the ability to interpret trade codes and CSA Standards

  • Familiarity with compliant codes and standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and their families, staff and visitors

  • Experience with fiscal control and human resources management

  • Experience in the preparation and presentation of reports, variances and forecast of needs.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks for self and others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals both inside and outside the institution.

  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.

  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
