ADMINISTRATIVE VACANCY TEACHING PRINCIPALSHIP – BABINE ELEMENTARY SECONDARY SCHOOL Start Date: August 1, 2026
Position: 1.0 FTE Continuing

The School District Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suweten peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in beautiful north central BC.
We serve 2,825 students in our standard schools and an additional 900 FTEs at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities, and a lower cost of living compared to many other regions. Come and enjoy over 200 lakes, rivers and streams and an abundance of outdoor recreation pursuits at your doorstep.
The Community The Village of Granisle has a population of roughly 300 residents. Situated on the unceded traditional territory of the Lake Babine Nation, the surrounding region is notable for its vibrant First Nations culture and outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Set along the shores of Babine Lake and framed by snow-capped mountain peaks, Granisle provides year-round recreation, including snow sports, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting, with abundant water-based activities available throughout the summer on the largest natural lake in BC.
The Position The successful candidate will be a student-focused, community-minded leader who values connection, visibility, and active involvement in daily school life. This is a teaching principalship in which staff work collaboratively to provide a flexible, student-centered learning environment that reflects both the unique strengths and challenges of a small rural school. The role requires leadership grounded in flexibility, care, and practical problem-solving. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as the position involves ongoing collaboration with families, Rightsholders and the wider community.
The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an outstanding leader with a visionary and innovative approach, with students at the center of decision-making. They are compassionate listeners with a proven track record in public school leadership. Proficient in current learning theories, they advocate for lifelong learning and maintain strong interpersonal and communication skills. Their consultative leadership style is characterized by effective decision-making and collaboration with the school and broader community. Committed to excellence, diversity, Truth and Reconciliation, they actively contribute to continuous improvement in all aspects of the school community. As a valued administrative team member, they demonstrate dedication, compassion, technological proficiency, and a deep understanding of education, emphasizing a safe and caring school environment through positive relationships.
Qualifications And Abilities
- Completed, working on or committed to completing a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
- Demonstrated ability as an effective instructional leader, with successful administrative experience
- A willingness to work collaboratively with staff, parents, First Nations, and the community to develop leadership that enhances student achievement
- Awareness and sensitivity to current educational issues, reflective professional practice and the changing nature of instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge of current research in instructional practices related to early literacy and numeracy
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective intervention support systems and practices
- Demonstrated knowledge of special education and current teaching strategies and programs to support learning assistance and special education students
- Demonstrated ability as a team-builder and team-player, and in strengthening/maintaining a collaborative learning environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of current assessment strategies and practices
- Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing strategic school planning that aligns with the District's Strategic goals
- Commitment to school/community involvement
- Knowledge and appreciation of local Indigenous culture and learning, as well as a successful history of building positive and meaningful relationships that focus on student success
- Knowledge of school contractual and budgetary matters and working knowledge of Office 365

Babine Elementary Secondary School:
- Approximately 38 FTE students (K-12); (80% Indigenous students); 9 teaching and non-teaching staff members
- Located in Granisle, BC, a small village on the shores of Babine Lake
- An active, involved Parent Advisory Council plays an important role in supporting and developing a healthy school community
Compensation: The salary range for this position is determined by the BC Public Service Employer Association (BCPSEA). Placement on the salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
- Current salary grid is $146,103 - $154,402*
- Monthly housing support allowance and moving reimbursement
- Recruitment & retention monthly allowance
- Excellent benefits based on the provincial exempt package

Current enrollment is over 750 students in grades ranging from kindergarten to 11. This program overcomes time, organizational and geographic barriers to learning.
