Civil Engineering Technologist
About the role
SACL is a geotechnical and foundation engineering firm in Ottawa. We're hiring a Civil Engineering Technologist to work directly with our senior engineers on foundation design, ground improvement, stabilization, and the drafting of geotechnical and structural plans.
Who this role is for This suits both experienced technologists and early-career engineering graduates or EITs who want hands-on geotechnical experience. Technologists play a central part in our design and field work, supporting design development, drafting, and site investigation. For those on the path to professional licensure, the role offers a route toward independent design responsibility as you progress toward your P.Eng, with supervised experience and mentorship from our licensed engineers.
What you'll do Assist our senior engineers on geotechnical and structural design. Produce and revise design drawings in AutoCAD to our internal standard. Pull information from drawings, specs, and geotechnical reports. Occasionally support field testing on site. Tasks run through Microsoft Planner.
What we're looking for A completed or nearly completed accredited engineering degree (Canadian or assessed-equivalent), or a 3-year engineering-technology diploma (civil or related, OACETT-eligible). AutoCAD skill you can prove in a short practical exercise. A working grasp of statics, strength of materials, and basic soil mechanics, with careful drawing-reading. We train our drafting standard and specialized software in-house. Legally entitled to work in Canada without employer sponsorship, now or in future. Willing to work on-site in Ottawa and travel occasionally across Canada for field work.
Nice to have Civil 3D or 3D modelling, and any exposure to shoring, falsework, cofferdams, or temporary works.
