Position Overview
Our Regional Mental Health and Addiction Centre is looking for a Crisis Counsellor. The person may work at our Hawkesbury site, our Casselman Community Intensive Treatment Team (ACTT), and on the mobile crisis team in partnership with the provincial police (Hawkesbury and Embrun stations).
The Crisis Team travels to meet people in crisis throughout the Prescott-Russell region, offering immediate support to people aged 16 and over who are experiencing emotional distress.
PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITION, 12 HOUR SHIFTS (8am to 8pm, days-evenings, weekends)
- Possibility of 8 hr, 10 hr or 12 hr shifts depending on operational requirements
Criminal Check
As a pre-condition of employment:

What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Psychology, any Mental Health and Addictions related program or certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in Mental Health and Addiction.
- Excellent clinical and assessments skills in psychiatric crisis.
- In-depth knowledge of mental illnesses and concurrent disorders.
- In-depth knowledge of crisis risk assessment and best practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health Act.
- Able to practice and impart the skill of empathy in the client-counsellor interaction, ensuring active listening and dealing with the clients concerns as they present them.
- Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision with proven reliability and trustworthiness.
- Possess a working knowledge of both official languages.
- Possess strong problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills.
- Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license, use of vehicle and insurance.
